29th Annual Public-School Awards Ceremony

Each year the Grand Junction Masonic bodies honor the outstanding teachers and students in the area. Each school chooses an teacher, each Middle School chooses an 8th Boy and Girl, and each High School chooses an 11th Grad Boy and Girl. The teachers, and students are chosen by their respective schools.

Below are the teachers and students honored in 2022.

Masonic Lode Scholarships

Each of the Masonic Lodges in the Grand Valley, Mesa Lodge No. 55, Fruita Masonic Lodge No. 120, Palisade Lodge No. 125, and Grand Junction Lodge No. 173, offer a scholarship to graduating high school seniors in the Grand Valley and surrounding areas.

This year Jacob Haifley, Claudia Quijada Bermudez, and Ashlyn Wilkerson were selected to receive scholarships.

Mesa Lodge No. 55 A.F. & A.M. John C. Whitlock Memorial Scholarship

Jacob Haifley

Jacob has maintained a 3.86 GPA and has been an active participant in sports, lettering in track, soccer, and cross country. He has volunteered much of his free and summertime to counseling in his church’s youth programs and weekly at the Catholic Outreach Soup Kitchen.

He has always been fascinated by the
science of flight and his aspiration is to pursue a career in the aerospace industry, designing and building aircraft and space vehicles.

Palisade Masonic Lodge No. 125 A.F. & A.M. Scholarship

Claudia Quijada Bermudez

Claudia is taking multiple AP classes including Geography, Spanish, US History, and Statistics she is also currently enrolled and taking classes at CMU.

She is also part of the Palisade
High School Honors Orchestra playing the violin, she is on the soccer team, President of the Future Business Leaders of America Club, and she is part of the D.O.G.S. program where upperclassmen mentor underclassmen.

She did all this while achieving a 3.86 Cumulative GPA and maintaining a 4.0 Plus GPA her senior year.

Grand Junction Lodge No. 173 A.F. & A.M.Warren E. Bush Memorial Scholarship

Ashlyn Wilkerson

Ashlyn has had a very successful high school academic career and has
made the most of the limited Advance Placement classes available in
this small school district. After her pursuit of being a high school athlete ended she demonstrated great imitative and character by exploring new areas to excel at Plateau Valley High School.

She became a mentor and tutor to the younger students in the school and is active in the theater group.

In her community, she works as a veterinary assistant and enjoys working with animals. She has shadowed nursing staff to get a feel for the medical
profession. We strongly believe that Ashlyn will be very successful in her desire to become a Midwife.
